Heralding the latest arrivals from MD Records, the label that just keeps on giving! An MD update and a few words on the new releases from the boys:
Well here we are in May 2020 and how the world has changed! We sincerely hope that you and all your loved ones stay safe in these incredibly challenging times. The lock-down has given us plenty of time to go over things and review our first two years since signing those initial contracts. Seems like a lifetime ago. We are eternally grateful for all your support over this time and want to continue to keep bringing you the best music we can find for the best prices.
In order to do that we are moving to pressing 500 singles from release 108. By moving to 500 singles we can continue to bring them to you at £10. Postage for Royal Mail has increased again and we have finally had to change that on our site. It is now £3.50 for UK first class postage up to 3 singles. We still lose money on postage and packing but hey that's life! Please remember that the Posties are working under very tough conditions and things are taking a little longer to get places. Please allow extra time for delivery - everything is sent first class recorded in UK; Europe and RoW is by selection.
So to the new releases....
The In-Souls "I've Got the Feeling" (MD107)
..Originally recorded at the Virtue studio in Philly in 1966, here are two slabs of soul one a vocal and the other a bass driven instrumental, with soaring brass. Anthony Alvon is none other than Tony Alvon of Belaires fame. This track was re-recorded and produced in 1967 for the Detroit Palmer label. Here for the first time ever is the original recording backed with a previously unknown instrumental titled "Tony's Groove". With the original Virtue sound engineer note page found in the master tape box.
The top side is a fabulous funky mid sixties dancer, with great brass and a honking sax, listen carefully and you will hear the band calling to each other in the background. Flip it over and let the instrumental wash over you. "Tony's Groove" allows the quality of the band shine through, with their tight brass work behind the driving bass making the instrumental a superb track in its own right.
Roland Johnson "Set Your Mind Free" (MD108)
A contemporary recording from 2019, made at Blue Lotus recording studio in St Louis, Missouri. Cliff Steele was one of the first to pic up on this hidden gem. It is already being talked about as one of the big tracks of 2020 by those who have heard it being played out. Also read about Roland, he is the real deal, 72 and still performing. Flip it for a stunning modern mid tempo deep soul track that is to die for.
Soundfiles and ordering for both 45s are available on the MD Records website at https://www.mdrecords.co.uk/product-category/new-releases/ and on our Facebook page.
The original 45s stock on the website has also been updated and we are continuing to add some great records, so if you want to make the most out of your postage do have a look. Finally, we are already lining up the next three releases so keep 'em peeled.
All the best and stay safe, Mark and Des.
