It's Rock 'n' Roll. A Musical History of the Fabulous Fifties - Gene Busnar
An account written in 1979 by Gene Busnar, respected author and researcher of the development of popular music in the US. Here he takes us through how doowop, country and blues influenced and shaped the sound of rock n roll through the 50s to the early 1960s. Less an academic analysis and more an 'easy read'. Its all in there - Buddy Holly, Shirley and Lee, Bo Diddley, The Orioles and many others. The book presents perspectives given to Busnar by his original sources including Billy Robinson of Fury Records, Billy Vera and other industry figures of the era, and is enriched by original photos from Record World Magazine and the collections of Neil Hollander of Banner Talent Agency (hardback, 1979 first edition, used, ex-library).
